31:1a When all this had ended,

At the end of the festivities,
-or-
Once the ⌊Passover⌋ Festival was over
-or-
At that point the feast had ended.

31:1b the Israelites in attendance went out to the cities of Judah

the Israelites who had attended ⌊the Passover Festival⌋ left ⌊the city⌋ and went into Judah’s towns.
-or-
the people of Israel who had come ⌊to the Festival⌋ went to the towns in Judah.

31:1c and broke up the sacred pillars, chopped down the Asherah poles,

They destroyed the stones ⌊that people thought were⌋ holy. They cut down the poles ⌊that were images of the goddess⌋ Asherah.
-or-
There they demolished the stones ⌊where people worshiped foreign gods⌋ and chopped down the poles ⌊where people worshiped the goddess⌋ Asherah.

31:1d and tore down the high places and altars

They destroyed the sacred places on the hills and places of sacrifice
-or-
They also got rid of the shrines on the hilltops and the places for offering sacrifices ⌊to other gods⌋.

31:1e throughout Judah and Benjamin, as well as in Ephraim and Manasseh,

everywhere in ⌊the lands of⌋ Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim and Manasseh.
-or-
These sacred places were found all over ⌊the territories of the clans of⌋ Judah and Benjamin and Ephraim and Manasseh.

31:1f until they had utterly destroyed them all.

After they demolished them all,
-or-
And so Israel’s people got rid of the places ⌊of pagan worship⌋.

31:1g Then all the Israelites returned to their cities, each to his own property.

the Israelites went back to their own towns and to the lands that they owned.

Then they returned home to their own properties/lands.
