28:3a Moreover, Ahaz burned incense in the Valley of Hinnom

He offered sacrifices in the Ben Hinnom Valley.

He burned ⌊animals as⌋ sacrifices in the Ben Hinnom Ravine.

28:3b and sacrificed his sons in the fire,

He burned his own children as sacrifices.

He sacrificed his own children by burning them in the fire ⌊to the gods⌋.

28:3c according to the abominations of the nations that the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.

These were the evil things that the ⌊people of the surrounding⌋ nations did. They were the people that Yahweh drove out of the land when the people of Israel came.

In this way he followed the previous peoples’ disgusting practices. He did what they had done before Yahweh chased them out of the land.
