26:23a And Uzziah rested with his fathers

26:23b and was buried near them

They buried him close to them,

26:23c in a field of burial that belonged to the kings;

in a burial ground that belonged to the kings.

⌊They did not bury him with the other kings,⌋ but in a nearby field belonging to the kings.

26:23d for the people said, “He was a leper.”

⌊They didn’t bury him with the other kings⌋ because people said, “He had a terrible skin disease.”

They did this because he had a skin disease.

26:23e And his son Jotham reigned in his place.

His son Jotham became the next king.

Then Jotham his son became king in his place.
