Exegesis:

apēggelē de autō lit. ‘it was reported to him,’ with a shift in syntactic structure ‘he was told.’ Cf. on 7.18.

hestēkasin exō ‘are standing outside,’ i.e. outside the house.

idein thelontes se ‘wishing to see you.’

Translation:

He was told, or, ‘people/somebody told him (or, informed him of this, saying).’

Are standing outside, or, where idiomatically better, ‘are outside (the house)’: it is their presence, not their exact attitude that is relevant in this context.

To see you, or, ‘to meet you’ (Marathi, similarly Toraja-Sa’dan, lit. a reciprocal form of ‘to see’).
