Translation commentary on Wisdom 3:19

For the end of an unrighteous generation is grievous: The connector For may be kept. Contemporary English Version has “because.” An unrighteous generation refers to a family line descended from an unlawful marriage, or to members of that family line. New English Bible translates end … grievous as “a hard fate.” Translators could render this as follows: “The descendants of an unlawful marriage lead a hard life.” Or they might bring out the emphasis in the Greek by saying “Hard is the life that the descendants of an unlawful marriage must live” or “Misery [or, unhappiness] is the reward for the descendants of an unlawful marriage.”
