Translation commentary on Judith 6:8

You will not die until you perish along with them: “You will die with the people there” (Good News Translation) does not convey the power of Holofernes’ threat—and it is a threat. He is not just telling Achior that he is going to die among the Israelites. He is going to “be utterly destroyed” when the city he is placed in meets its fate. “You will not die until you share their fate” (New English Bible) and “… share their ruin” (New Jerusalem Bible) are in the right direction, but still understated. Gonzáles and Alonso-Schöckel is good: “you will be exterminated along with them,” or we may say “We will exterminate you along with them.”
