So I will show my greatness and my holiness and make myself known in the eyes of many nations: By destroying Gog and his army God will show all the nations how great and holy he is. For I will show … my holiness, see the comments on 20.41 (see also verse 16). For I will … make myself known, see 35.11. In the eyes of is a Hebrew idiom that means “before” or “in front of.” In the eyes of the many nations may be rendered “where many nations can see” (similarly New Century Version). Good News Translation provides a helpful model for this whole sentence, saying “In this way I will show all the nations that I am great and that I am holy.”
Then they will know that I am the LORD: When Yahweh shows his greatness and holiness, the nations will recognize that he is God. F
A model for this verse is:
• In this way I will make all the nations see that I am a great God that is worthy of people worshiping me. Then they will know that I am Yahweh.”
