So I led them out of the land of Egypt and brought them into the wilderness: This verse recalls the time Moses led the people of Israel out of Egypt in what is called the Exodus (see Exo 13–24). Although Moses was the human leader, he acted on God’s command. That is why the pronoun I is used here, referring to God. As elsewhere, the verb brought may be rendered as “led” (Contemporary English Version) or “took” (Moffatt). The wilderness refers to the dry desert area of the Sinai Peninsula.
