Translators need to find a natural way to structure the first two lines; for example, “As for her rulers, her advisers, the officials, the military commanders and the soldiers, I will make all of them drunk” or “I will make drunk her soldiers and all her leaders, including the advisers, officials and military commanders.”

Sleep a perpetual sleep and not wake: See verse 39.

Says the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts can be rendered “This is what the King has said, the King whose name is [or, who is] the LORD Almighty.” Says the King is similar in meaning to “says the LORD” (see 1.8). For the LORD of hosts, see 2.19.
