Job now makes two statements addressed to God. I know that thou canst do all things: things is implied but not expressed in Hebrew. The sense of this line is “I know you have the power to do anything” or Good News Translation “… that you are all-powerful.” Many translators will prefer to address God as LORD, as in Good News Translation.

Job also knows that no purpose of thine can be thwarted. Purpose translates a word meaning “plan or idea”—anything that God plans to do will be done. Good News Translation renders the thought positively: “you can do everything you want.” This may also be rendered, for example, “you can do whatever you decide to do” or “no one can stop you from doing what you want.”
