And Hezekiah and all the people rejoiced because of what God had done for the people: Instead of saying what God had done for the people, it will be more natural in some languages to say “what God had done for them” ( NET Bible).
For the thing came about suddenly: This clause explains why Hezekiah and his people were so happy. The thing refers to the renewal of worship in the Temple which was described in the previous verses. This happened in the first month of the first year that Hezekiah was king (verse 3), so it occurred suddenly. For this whole clause Revised English Bible has “because it had come about so speedily.”
