Translation commentary on 2 Chronicles 19:1

Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned in safety to his house in Jerusalem: Languages differ as to whether a title like king is placed before the proper name (so Good News Translation) or mentioned after the proper name. Revised Standard Version reflects the form of the Hebrew, but translators should do whatever is more natural in their language. In safety is literally “in peace” (Complete Jewish Bible, An American Translation). Nouvelle Bible Segond and La Bible du Semeur use the common French idiom “safe and sound.” In some languages the literal phrase his house is better expressed as “his palace” (Good News Translation, Parola Del Signore: La Bibbia in Lingua Corrente).
