Some interpreters think that the reference to two sons of Bela named Gera (here as well as in verse 3 above) may be the result of a scribal error in repeating the name. The Syriac version lacks the name here; and for these reasons Moffatt omits the name Gera here. But most translations retain it in both places. If this name is kept as another son of Bela, then it may be rendered “another son named Gera” for clarity.

As noted in the comments on 1 Chr 8.4, other interpreters correct the text of verse 3 so that the persons named in verses 4 and 5 are the sons of Ehud and not the sons of Bela. According to this understanding, Gera in verse 5 is the son of Ehud and not a second son of Bela named Gera. The Gera mentioned in verse 6 as a son of Ehud would then be the same person as the Gera mentioned here in verse 5. This Gera would then be a grandson of the Gera mentioned in verse 3 and a great-grandson of Bela.
