Translation commentary on Numbers 12:13

And Moses cried to the LORD: The Hebrew verb for cried implies that Moses cried for help from the LORD (see the comments on 11.2). New Jerusalem Bible renders this clause as “Moses pleaded with Yahweh.”

Heal her, O God, I beseech thee: I beseech thee renders two occurrences of the Hebrew particle naʾ, which mark Moses’ appeal to God as urgent. Good News Translation leaves this element of the plea untranslated. But it would not be difficult in most languages to express this urgency and emotion by saying “Please heal her, O God, I beg of you!”
