The temporal relationship between verses 21 and 22 may be spelled out if the receptor language requires it. This verse may begin with “Afterwards,” or “Then,” or something similar.

It is diseased: literally “it is a mark.” The pronoun actually refers to the affected area of the skin, but the dynamic rendering of Good News Translation makes the person the subject. Some versions follow a slightly different Hebrew text so that the translation reads “it is a malignant (or, contagious) skin disease” (New English Bible, New Jerusalem Bible). This reading is not recommended by HOTTP. But what is rejected on textual grounds may be included as implicit information in a functionally equivalent translation.
