For I tell you repeats the emphatic formula of 5.20; see the translation there.

Again (Good News Translation “From now on”) is repeated in 26.29 ( Revised Standard Version “again”) and 26.64 (Revised Standard Version “hereafter”). The phrase is peculiar to Matthew’s Gospel, and it is evidently significant in his understanding of the last things.

You will not see me again, until must be understood in the framework of Matthew’s Gospel as looking forward to the final salvation event, though Luke (13.35) employs it of the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. The quotation which follows is taken from Psalm 118.26, and it represents a portion of the shout by which the pilgrims welcomed Jesus upon his entry into Jerusalem (Matt 21.9; Mark 11.9; Luke 19.38). Die Bibel im heutigen Deutsch has “you will see me next, only when…,” thereby eliminating the more difficult negative form in favor of a simpler positive one.
