And the Lord gave Caleb strength, which remained with him to old age, so that he went up to the hill country, and his children obtained it for an inheritance: For gave Caleb strength, Good News Translation has “made Caleb strong,” and Contemporary English Version says “kept Caleb strong.” Good News Translation renders which remained with him to old age as “and when he was an old man he was still strong enough.” Hill country may be rendered “area with many hills.” The Greek does not mention Caleb’s capturing this land, but it is clearly implied both here and in Josh 14.6-14. “For himself and his descendants” (Good News Translation) translates for an inheritance. Good News Translation‘s restructuring of this verse is effective, quite consistent with Caleb’s own words in Josh 14.10-11.
