Translation commentary on Sirach 45:2

He made him equal in glory to the holy ones: Glory here refers to “splendor” or “majesty.” Here the holy ones refers to the angels. For this line the reader needs to be reminded that “the Lord” is the subject, as in Good News Translation, which reads “The Lord made him as glorious as the angels,” or we may say “The Lord gave Moses as much glory [or, splendor] as the angels.”

And made him great in the fears of his enemies: Good News Translation is a bit weak here with “and made his enemies fear him.” It would be better to says “and made his enemies terrified of him” or “and power that terrified his enemies” (Contemporary English Version). New English Bible is also good with “and gave him power to strike terror into his enemies.”
