Translation commentary on Sirach 35:9

The sacrifice of a righteous man is acceptable, and the memory of it will not be forgotten: This means that the sacrifice is acceptable to the Lord, and that the Lord will not forget it. Good News Translation helpfully makes this explicit. It also translates is acceptable as “will accept,” and expresses sacrifice as a plural noun, “offerings.” In English the plural is more natural. However, since a righteous man is mentioned in verse 6, some translators may wish to omit this phrase here and render this verse as follows:

• The Lord will accept such sacrifices and will never forget them.
