For all these things are to be done because of the commandment: Good News Translation states the meaning of this verse briefly and well; “one” of course means “an offering.” Even in the time of ben Sira when the Jews were scattered in many countries, often far from Jerusalem, they still studied the laws regarding sacrifice because God had given those laws, and if anyone went to the Temple, the sacrifices had to be made. God said to do it; that was reason enough.
