Translation commentary on Sirach 31:24

The city will complain of the one who is niggardly with food, and their testimony to his niggardliness is accurate: Again Good News Translation does well. Its translation appropriately mirrors verse 23, but with appropriate variation in vocabulary. Niggardly means “stingy” and has no relation at all to the word “nigger.” Because of the similarity in sound, it is seldom used today.
