Translation commentary on Sirach 24:34

Observe that I have not labored for myself alone, but for all who seek instruction: Except for the first word, this verse is exactly the same as 33.17 [33.18]. The Revised Standard Version footnote indicates that the Greek has the pronoun “it” instead of the noun instruction. Revised Standard Version should have rendered this pronoun as “wisdom,” which Good News Translation assumes to be the meaning. New Revised Standard Version has “wisdom.” Good News Translation provides a clear model for this verse; so does Contemporary English Version:

• You see, my work hasn’t been
for myself alone,
but for everyone who desires
to find Wisdom.
