The sinner is overtaken through his lips, the reviler and the arrogant are tripped by them: Two different images are used in the verbs here. Overtaken pictures a person running from another person, and being caught. Tripped pictures a person stumbling over something. Good News Translation combines the two lines effectively, but preserving some of the imagery would be nice; for example, “Sinners get caught because they stumble over their own arrogant, insulting words.” Translators who are using poetry may keep the two parallel lines; Contemporary English Version has a helpful model:

• Sinners are caught
when they talk too much,
and the arrogant are tripped up
because they insult others.
