O Lord, Father and God of my life: This line is closely parallel with the first line of verse 1.
Do not give me haughty eyes: Having haughty eyes refers to an arrogant attitude. God, of course, is not going to make someone arrogant. The meaning of this line is expressed in New Jerusalem Bible, which has “do not let my eyes be proud.” Other possible renderings are “keep me from being arrogant” (Good News Translation) and “Don’t let me look with arrogance at other people” (Contemporary English Version).
