In verse 14 Good News Translation, Revised Standard Version, and others take the Hebrew text to mean that only one group of bridesmaids follows her (her virgin companions, her escort); but some take these to be two groups, “bridesmaids” and “ladies-in-waiting” (or, less elegantly, her servants). There is no way to be certain; the Hebrew text is none too clear. In some languages her virgin companions may be rendered “the young girls who help her” or “the young women who walk behind her.”

Good News Translation “to him” translates what is in the Masoretic text “to you” (masculine), that is, the king; two Hebrew manuscripts have “to her” (the princess), which Bible en français courant, Revised Standard Version, New English Bible, New Jerusalem Bible prefer. Hebrew Old Testament Text Project stays with the Masoretic text, which it translates “for you,” referring to the king.

Verse 15 describes how the wedding procession, with great joy and gladness, enters the palace for the wedding ceremony.
