Traduction œcuménique de la Bible takes verses 8-9 as the song which the psalmist speaks of in verse 7d.

Strength of his people: see verse 7 “my strength.” At the end of the line, instead of people the Masoretic text has “to them”; some Hebrew manuscripts, and the Septuagint and Syriac, have “to his people,” which is followed by Good News Translation, Revised Standard Version, and others, and is preferred by Hebrew Old Testament Text Project.

Refuge translates a word meaning mountain fort, stronghold (as in 27.1); saving refuge means a refuge that saves. “Safe refuge” (New English Bible, New Jerusalem Bible) is more in keeping with normal English. Biblia Dios Habla Hoy translates “a help and a refuge,” and Die Bibel im heutigen Deutsch has “is saved by him as in a fortress.” For his anointed see comments on 2.2.

Some scholars feel that the parallelism between his people in line a and his anointed in line b suggests that the latter refers to the people as a whole, not just the king (so New Jerusalem Bible, in footnote); while possible, this does not seem too probable. His anointed or “his chosen king” requires some adjustment in many languages; for example, “the king God has chosen.”
