In verses 10-12 the psalmist speaks of Yahweh’s promise to David that his descendants would rule as kings over Israel. Good News Translation connects verse 10 with what follows. The verse begins, “For the sake of your servant David,” which Good News Translation takes as a reference to the promise given in verse 11; in verse 10b thy anointed one (see 2.2) is probably not David himself (as Dahood interprets it) but the reigning king at the time the psalm was used (Anderson and others). The language do not turn away the face of means “do not reject” (Good News Translation, New International Version, New Jerusalem Bible, New English Bible), but instead accept, that is, bless and help. Good News Translation‘s “do not reject your chosen king, LORD” may be recast in some languages as “LORD, do not say ‘No’ to the man you have chosen to be king” or “… the king you have chosen.”
