The whole exodus event is summarized in these last verses. In verse 43 it should be clear that with joy and with singing refer to the Israelites, not to Yahweh. In verses 43 and 44 the two lines of each verse are synonymous; Good News Translation has not formally represented the poetic parallelism his people and his chosen ones in verse 43.

In verse 44a the lands of the nations are the lands occupied by the various people in Canaan and on the east side of the Jordan, which the invading Hebrews conquered. In verse 44b the peoples’ toil refers to the cultivated fields of the Canaanites, on which they had toiled. A translation can be “and they took over what other people had worked for.” New Jerusalem Bible, however, has simply “the wealth of the peoples.” For the historical account of the conquest under Joshua, see Joshua 11.16-23.

Yahweh’s purpose in giving Canaan to the Israelites was that they should be his people, obeying his statutes and … his laws. In languages in which there are no synonyms to represent statutes and laws, it will often be necessary to say, for example, “obey God’s laws and do all the things he had ordered them to do.”
