Translation commentary on Nehemiah 10:39

For the people of Israel and the sons of Levi shall bring the contribution …: This statement seems to be a clarification of what is to be done with the contribution of grain, wine and oil that has been collected by the Levites (see verse 37 above). The Hebrew conjunction rendered For links this verse to the preceding instructions. It draws attention to their importance in relation to the Temple. All the contributions (expressed here as a collective singular noun in Hebrew) are to be brought by the people and the Levites to the chambers of the Temple. That is the place where the vessels of the sanctuary are kept (see Ezra 8.28-29), as well as where the priests, gatekeepers and singers have their living quarters as Good News Translation makes explicit. Sanctuary here refers to the Temple. For sons of Levi, see Ezra 8.15.

The priests that minister means those that are currently doing the Temple duties.

We will not neglect the house of our God: This last sentence is a summary statement of the intent of the people to provide for the needs of the Temple. Having stated everything that they will provide for the Temple, they now declare what they will not do. They will not neglect the Temple, which they refer to as the house of our God (see Ezra 8.17). Traduction œcuménique de la Bible says “Thus we will not abandon the House of our God.”
