Translation commentary on Matthew 27:31

Led … away (so also New Jerusalem Bible, New English Bible) differs slightly from Mark who has “led … out” (15.20).

Him occurs in the Greek only once, as the object of led … away, but it must be supplied as the object of to crucify, as Revised Standard Version and most other translations have done. Mark has the pronoun as the object of each verb (15.20). For another example of Matthew’s abbreviated style, see verse 58.
