Matthew specifically identifies the subject of the verb led as those who had seized Jesus; Mark (14.53) and Luke (22.54) each have the pronoun “they” as subject of the verb. Translators need to be sure they don’t render led with a word that means simply they went in front of Jesus or showed him the way. “Took” of Good News Translation is better.

To Caiaphas the high priest is translated “to the house of Caiaphas, the High Priest” by Good News Translation. Neither Mark (14.53, “to the high priest”) nor Luke (22.54, “into the high priest’s house”) identify the High Priest by name. Matthew previously mentioned Caiaphas in verse 3.

Matthew states that the scribes and the elders comprised the group who had gathered to place Jesus on trial; Mark (14.53) notes that “the chief priests” were also present. Luke (22.54) does not identify the persons present for the ordeal. Matthew probably omits mention of “the chief priests” on the assumption that they were already gathered there, waiting to bring Jesus to trial. Scribes was discussed at 2.4; for elders, see 16.21. Elders can be “the senior leaders” or “the older men in leadership position,” if elders alone is not clear.
