Translation commentary on Matthew 22:31

As for the resurrection of the dead may be dealt with in a manner similar to what was done with “in the resurrection” of verses 28 and 30: “as for the dead rising to life” (Good News Translation) or “as for the matter of the dead rising to life.” Bibel im heutigen Deutsch, 1st edition is effective: “if you doubt that the dead will rise….”

Have you not read what was said to you by God expects an affirmative reply: “Yes, we have read….” It may be advisable to shift to a strong statement: “You have surely read what God has said” or “if you doubt … then evidently you have never read what God has said” (Bibel im heutigen Deutsch, 1st edition). One may want to indicate the source which the Jews are expected to have read: “You have surely read what God said in our Scriptures.”
