And: the force of this conjunction may be better rendered in many languages by saying something like “you shall also give to the priest…,” that is, in addition to the fat and the breast mentioned in verse 30.

The right thigh: some translations have understood this to refer to the shoulder rather than to the thigh (King James Version), but it is almost certainly the upper joint of the animal’s hind leg that is meant. Both Good News Translation and New English Bible specify “the right hind leg.” Situated near the organs of reproduction, this part was related to the mystery of life and was withdrawn from normal consumption. This was especially true for the right thigh, given the importance of the right side among the people of Israel. If the right does not have any special positive connotation in the receptor language, it may be advisable to include this information in a note.
