Translation commentary on Leviticus 26:45

For their sake: literally “for them.” But it is probably better to translate “for their good” or “for their benefit.” Bible en français courant has “for their salvation.”

Remember the covenant: this repeats the affirmation given in verse 42.

Forefathers: this is the more specific word for “ancestors” and refers to those who were delivered from slavery in Egypt, and not to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Compare verse 40.

In the sight of the nations: literally “in the eyes of the nations.” This may be more explicitly translated “to demonstrate my strength to the nations.” On the word nations see verse 33 as well as 18.24 and 25.44.
