Translation commentary on Leviticus 24:16

Blasphemes: this word and the one for “curse” in the previous verse refer to the same act (see verse 11). So it is possible to combine them in the translation, as has been done in Good News Translation.

Put to death: see 20.2.

All the congregation shall stone him: see verse 14.

Sojourner: see 16.29. This leaves no doubt that foreigners and Israelites must be treated the same in this matter.

Blasphemes the Name: Good News Translation has “curses the LORD.” See verse 11.
