Translation commentary on Leviticus 21:21

This verse is a summary statement which states the same truth twice in slightly different words. Good News Translation has reduced this to a single statement. Receptor-language habits will determine whether it is more natural to follow the Revised Standard Version or the Good News Translation formulation.

Come near: the word used here is not the same as in verses 17 and 18 above, but the meaning is virtually identical.
