God has strengthened Cyrus, so that everyone in the world will know that there is no god besides Yahweh. Good News Translation begins a new sentence here by beginning with “I do this so that…,” which other languages may find helpful.

That men may know is literally “so that they may know.” Good News Translation clarifies the sense here by saying “so that everyone … may know.”

From the rising of the sun and from the west is literally “from the rising of the sun and from its setting place” (similarly New International Version). This expression refers to the whole world (see the comments on 43.5), so Contemporary English Version, Revised English Bible, New Jerusalem Bible, and New Jewish Publication Society’s Tanakh say simply “from east to west.” Good News Translation has “from one end of the world to the other,” which is a helpful model.

That there is none besides me; I am the LORD, and there is no other: These three statements are very similar to those in the previous verse (see the comments there). Translators may use the same expressions here or similar ones, allowing for a natural style.

For the translation of this verse consider the following examples:

• … so that people from east to west will know
that there is none [or, no god] apart from me.
I am Yahweh, and there is no other [god].

• … so that everyone from the east to the west [or, from all over the world] will know
that there is no god besides me.
I am Yahweh; there is no other god.
