Translation commentary on 3 Maccabees 5:36

The king, however, reconvened the party in the same manner and urged the guests to return to their celebrating: We are not told how much time passes between the incident in the last section and this verse, but we should assume a short space of time, probably later the same day. The connector used in the Greek text at the beginning of this verse is much weaker than however, and can be left untranslated. At the beginning of this new section it will be helpful to render the king as “King Philopator” (Contemporary English Version). Reconvened the party means the king invited the guests back to start the celebration all over. Here is an alternative model for this verse:

• King Philopator called his guests to come back and start celebrating again. He held a party just like the other one.
