As a result, they wounded many of them, and killed some, and put them all to flight: They certainly did not put them allto flight if they killed some. The sentence is not logical, but the sense is clear enough. Good News Bible translates very well here, but uses the English idiom “ran for their lives,” which may be rendered simply “ran away” (Contemporary English Version).

And the temple robber himself they killed close by the treasury: The temple robber is Lysimachus, whom Good News Bible helpfully identifies. Good News Bible says “that temple robber,” which reflects English usage; “the Temple robber” would be a better model or even “the man who stole from the Temple.” The treasury refers to the Temple treasury. Heliodorus almost died at the same spot (see 2Macc 3.23-30). In languages that do not have the passive voice, translators may render this whole clause as “They killed the Temple robber Lysimachus near the Temple treasury.”
