Translators may insert a paragraph break here (so Good News Bible).

When the king asked Heliodorus what sort of person would be suitable to send on another mission to Jerusalem, he replied: Good News Bible renders person as “man.” The Greek does not specify the sex of the person, but Good News Bible is not wrong, since the king would have had a man in mind. However, Good News Bible leaves the mistaken impression that the king was asking Heliodorus to recommend a specific person by rendering what sort of person would be suitable as “who would be the best man.” A better model is “what kind of person would be appropriate.” He replied may begin a new sentence (see the models below). An alternative model for this verse is:

• The king asked Heliodorus what kind of person he should send to Jerusalem the next time. Heliodorus answered….

In languages that prefer direct speech here, translators may say:

• The king asked Heliodorus, “What kind of person should I send to Jerusalem next time?”
Heliodorus answered….
