But Heliodorus, because of the king’s commands which he had, said that this money must in any case be confiscated for the king’s treasury: Heliodorus did not want to discuss technicalities. He had his orders from the king, and he must carry them out. In any case indicates that everything Onias had said was irrelevant; the money had to be taken away (confiscated) from the owners.

Alternative models for this verse are:

• But Heliodorus said [or, insisted] that it made no difference what the money was intended for; he had orders from the king to take it and put it in the royal treasury.

• Heliodorus answered, “King Seleucus has ordered me to collect the money for the royal treasury, and I’m going to do just that” [Contemporary English Version].
