And with other similar words he exhorted them that the law should not depart from their hearts means that Jeremiah told the people many things on that occasion, but the theme of everything was that they should never abandon the Law. The people should continue to honor, study, and obey the Law. Good News Bible is wrong; it sounds like he had not been urging them never to abandon the Law in verse 2. Contemporary English Version is better with “He said many similar things, while urging them to always think about the teachings of the Law.” Another possible models is:

• Jeremiah said many similar things while urging the people over and over not to abandon the Law.
