And further the wars against Antiochus Epiphanes and his son Eupator: The translator will do well to begin a new sentence here, for example, “He has described…” (Good News Bible) or “He also told us about…” (Contemporary English Version). The wars against may be rendered “the battles with” (Good News Bible), “the wars they fought with,” or even “how they fought many times against.” Antiochus Epiphanes is Antiochus~IV (see 1Macc 1.10), and his son Eupator is Antiochus~V (see 1Macc 6.17). Here is another model for the verse:

• He also told us about how they fought many battles [or, fought many times] against Antiochus Epiphanes and his son Eupator.
