Translation commentary on 2 Maccabees 14:36

So now, O holy One, Lord of all holiness, keep undefiled for ever this house that has been so recently purified: This verse emphasizes God’s holiness and the holiness of the Temple. The purification of the Temple is described in 2Macc 10.18. Lord of all holiness means he is the Lord of everything that is holy. Good News Bible shows one good approach to this verse. The verse may be reordered to make a better connection with the previous verse. A model that does this is:

• We have only recently purified this Temple [or, made this Temple fit for use again]. So now, holy God, Lord of all that is holy, keep this Temple holy forever.”
