When the priests of the temple of Nanea had set out the treasures and Antiochus had come with a few men inside the wall of the sacred precinct, they closed the temple as soon as he entered it: The sacred precinct is the temple dedicated to the goddess and from the context it is clear that this was an enclosed building. For inside the wall of the sacred precinct, Good News Bible has simply “into the temple,” which omits nothing. We are not told how the priests got outside, but it is clear that they closed the doors from the outside, since they were not inside the temple building when the killing began (see the next verse). It may be helpful to the reader to describe the scene a bit more fully at this point to avoid confusion in the next verse. We could say:

• The priests of Nanea laid out the treasure in the temple. But as soon as Antiochus and a few of his men came inside to get it, the priests closed the doors [on them] from the outside [or, closed the doors and locked them inside].
