Translation commentary on 2 Maccabees 10:10

Now we will tell what took place under Antiochus Eupator, who was the son of that ungodly man refers to what took place while Antiochus Eupator was king. Antiochus Eupator is Antiochus~V, who ruled 164–161 b.c.

And will give a brief summary of the principal calamities of the wars may be rendered “and I will tell you briefly about the primary disasters caused by the wars that took place while he was king.”

It may be helpful to combine verses 9 and 10 as follows:

• The ungodly man Antiochus Epiphanes had died, and his son Antiochus Eupator had become king. I will now tell you briefly about the terrible wars and other things that happened during his reign.
