It will be noted that Good News Translation reverses the order of the two clauses in this verse. While this may be natural in English, other languages may find it more natural to retain the order of Revised Standard Version.
He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD: See the comments at 1 Kgs 11.6 and 2 Kgs 3.2. Certain modern translations make explicit the fact that the pronoun he refers to “Amon” (Contemporary English Version, Bible en français courant). If there is a danger of misunderstanding, other languages may do the same.
