Whom the LORD carried away before them: Compare verse 8, where the verb “drove out” is used in place of carried away. The meaning of the two verbs is essentially the same. So translators need not be too concerned if they are unable to find different terms for these two verses.

Provoking the LORD to anger: See the discussion of the verb here in 1 Kgs 14.9. The same actions bring about the same result in 1 Kgs 14.15; 16.13 and 26.
