The detail that Amaziah was the son of Joash may be omitted here (so Good News Translation) not only because it is a repetition of material already presented (verse 1), but also because of the confusion between the kings named Jehoash and Joash. The fact that Jehoash of Israel was son of Jehoahaz is also left implicit by Good News Translation since this information is given in verses 1 and 8.

Contemporary English Version restructures this verse to introduce verses 18-20, which it has combined as follows:

• 17 Fifteen years after Jehoash died, 18-20 some people in Jerusalem plotted against Amaziah. He was able to escape to the town of Lachish, but another group of people caught him and killed him there. His body was taken back to Jerusalem on horseback and buried beside his ancestors.
Everything else Amaziah did while he was king is written in k The History of the Kings of Judahk*.

This may prove to be a helpful model for other languages.
