Translation commentary on 2 Kings 12:8

So: The common Hebrew conjunction at the beginning of this verse may be translated as a logical connector (Revised Standard Version/New Revised Standard Version, New American Bible) or omitted altogether (Good News Translation, Revised English Bible, Contemporary English Version).

Take no more money should not imply that the priests had previously taken money by force or some other kind of coercion. Some may prefer to translate “accept no more money” or “stop receiving money.”

That they should not repair the house may be rendered “that they should no longer be the people who were responsible for repairing the Temple.” The following verse shows that this is the intended sense. Compare “and they also agreed not to undertake the repairs of the Temple themselves” (New Living Translation).
